Why Critter Church?
There are thousands of people who would attend church with their animals if it were an option available to them.
Some detest the idea of leaving their animals unattended even for the few hours necessary for them to attend church. Beyond this, though, there are many, many people for whom the conventional ‘stance’ on animals is simply not acceptable to them and, for this reason, they don’t attend church.
And then there are these. A dear friend of ours, an MD and lifelong animal rescuer, shared the following story.
At the age of 11 whilst attending Catholic church, Marcia asked the priest if animals go to heaven.
The priest’s ready reply? ‘Don’t be ridiculous,’ he said, crushing forever the hopes of a child who would turn her back Not on animals but on the church, conventional religion and, essentially, Christ, for the remainder of her life on earth.
Marcia, dedicated to her love and appreciation for animals, closed the door to conventional church forever and refused to attend any church ever again for the rest of her life. She spent her entire life as a practicing physician and when she passed, after years of service to both humans and animals, at the age of 78 — she’d never returned to church.
